Topic: Cutting Edge Legal Issues for Meetings
New Challenges, Updated Solutions

A fast-paced session that covers the “latest and greatest” legal challenges facing meetings and events. Participants will discuss new developments that affect a meeting’s success, including Brexit, impacts of the Trump Administration, technological innovations, and the sharing economy. The session will include contracting strategies to limit both known and unknown risks, as well as methods to address unanticipated events that often impact meetings.

AirBnb; Uber; Political turmoil; Immigration restrictions; Legal Weed; Terrorism; Guns in Meetings -- Continuing change around the world means changes for meetings. The “Sharing Economy” featuring AirBnb and Uber creates havoc for hotel room blocks and transportation providers. Controversy in Washington raises worries about protest and disruptions, discourages international attendees from traveling, and may affect food and labor costs. And societal changes like legal marijuana and increased acceptance of guns in public places affects a meeting host’s potential liability.

More change is certain in the months and years ahead, but without a Crystal Ball it’s tough to plan for it. Yet solid planning is what successful planners and suppliers must do.

Session attendees should come ready to think about their most important legal issues today, and to brainstorm with colleagues about the best solutions.

Learner Outcomes:

• Identify the latest trends in meeting contracts, and adapt your organization’s practices and agreements to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by them.

• Create safeguards to allow meetings to embrace innovations like Airbnb, Uber, technological advances without putting your organization and attendees at risk.

• Develop contract provisions to protect your organization from the latest threats to successful and on-budget meetings, including fluctuating room rates, decreasing room demands caused by home-sharing services, and societal concerns that deter group members from attending your events.

Fun For All Skill Levels

When it comes to the game itself, players hit micro-chipped golf balls that track each shot’s accuracy and distance while awarding points for hitting targets on the outfield. Whether you’re an aspiring golf pro or picking up a club for the first time, Topgolf is everyone’s game. It’s fun. It’s competitive. And it’s a unique way to entertain corporate clients and colleagues in a very non-corporate setting.
