GMID not only serves the purpose of raising industry awareness around the importance of FACE-TO-FACE Meetings but, it’s also a day for our industry to come together as one voice.

Keynote Session: Hot Technologies 2018
How are you keeping up with the technological advancements that impact your job and career? Do you find that you’re barely able to keep pace with the latest developments within the hospitality industry? This session reviews what’s new and way cool in technology within the meetings industry in this fun, fast-paced look at what’s here for us to use now and what’s coming in the near future, including the latest information about virtual & augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and other important tech trends.

After participating in this session, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the most critical tech tools that are impacting meeting planning and supporting the hospitality industry
  • Understand the five major tech disruptors affecting our industry
  • Recognize how new technologies such as virtual & augmented reality are having an impact on the hospitality industry.

The Future of Meeting and Event Safety and Security

Program Overview: An exploration of the future of meeting and event safety and security practices and the use of emerging technologies to simplify workloads and ensure compliance with an ever complicated world.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discussion of existing practices and technologies;
2. Development and implementation of streamlined practices and policies; and,
3. The process of identifying relevant technologies that will reduce or eliminate liabilities.

About the Speakers:

Keynote Speaker:

Jim Spellos
Meeting U

Jim delivers over 150 seminars annually on how to use technology more efficiently. In 2015, Jim was named one of the Meeting Industry’s trendsetters by Meetings Today magazine. He is a faculty member at New York University, teaching in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies since 1990. He has been honored with both their Award for Teaching Excellence and their Outstanding Service Award.

In 2014, Jim joined the Board of Directors for Rock and Wrap It Up, an anti-organization which supports over 43,000 agencies in North America. Jim co-created their Whole Earth Calculator app, which helps organizations identify the quantity of food donated, and carbon footprint reduced, from food recovered at meetings and events. He also speaks about food recovery and sustainability in the industry.

Outside of the meetings industry, Jim is an accomplished musician and songwriter, playing guitar and keyboards, and has recorded an album of his original material with his previous group, Contraband. He’s currently in the studio working on new material.



Lilly Graziani

Lilly Graziani has served nearly a decade with Florida Hospital. Her experiences allowed her to build and maintain relationships with all levels of leadership both within the hospital and externally. She is an accomplished speaker and has presented numerous keynote addresses. She helped to create and design the corporate wellness program that Florida Hospital now utilizes for new employee orientation. Graziani now serves as the Director of Corporate Development at the Florida Hospital Nicolson Center where she is responsible for establishing and implementing the sales and business development strategy. She works directly with physicians, hospitals, medical device companies, academic institutions, the federal government, the military, medical societies and professional associations to build relationships and bring meetings and events to the Nicholson Center.

Brian D. Avery
Event Safety Services

Brian D. Avery is a speaker, professor, expert witness, and author with a career that spans more     than 25-years in the events, tourism and attractions industry. His background is comprised of three areas of expertise: risk and safety management, event design and execution, and education. Brian has passionately dedicated his career to events, tourism and attractions safety. He is a managing member in a company that provides events, tourism and attractions safety consulting and expert witness services. Brian has held or currently holds memberships within professional associations and societies, such as Meeting Professionals International, Florida Festival and Events Association, International Association of Venue Managers, ASTM International and American Society of Safety Engineers and American Society for Industrial Security.
